What is Mastopexy Augmentation?
Mastopexy augmentation is now becoming a very well-known procedure in the United Kingdom. It is the combination of both breast uplift and breast enlargement surgery. Breast uplift or mastopexy mainly tightens the skin of the breast and breast enlargement surgery is the increase in size of the bust. Both procedures can now be successfully performed at the same time.
Mastopexy? Augmentation? or Both?
Before you decide which treatment is best for you, I guess we need to understand what this treatments are and what do they do to you. Mastopexy is a treatment which aims to tighten the skin of the breast thus lifting it. This is usually performed on women who have adequate breast size but want a perter breast. While breast enlargement, on the other hand, is a procedure performed to increase the size of the breasts. This is for women who has not had kids or those that had kids but the nipples are drooping.
If both of the condition is present (1) inadequate breast size and (2) nipples drooping is observed, like it’s when you look at yourself in the mirror and no skin is seen under your nipple area normally breast uplift is needed, thus, the most appropriate treatment would be Mastopexy Augmentation.
How is Mastopexy Augmentation done?
Mastopexy augmentation combines both basics of breast enlargement and uplift surgery.
For breast augmentation, like a common breast augmentation, you must first consider the breast size, shape and amount of implant you want. Aurora Clinics will spend more time with you looking at different implants and special bras having you try in different clothes to distinguish which volume best suits your body frame.
Another thing to consider is the type of incision. Normally, in breast augmentation alone the incision is approximately five centimeters in the fold below the breast while in mastopexy augmentation the incision is longer. Like a normal mastopexy, the incision can be partially circular or crescent in shape on the higher part of the nipple or go around the whole nipple.
However, since we are increasing the breast volume we are tightening up the skin of the breast, thus the amount of scars are normally shorter in mastopexy augmentation than in mastopexy alone where breast volume is not increased. Therefore, mastopexy augmentation is somewhat more intricate than mastopexy or breast augmentation alone as the surgeon needs to manage alterations in breast volume and tightness of the breast tissues.
There had been deliberations recently on whether breast augmentation and mastopexy should be performed together. A number of surgeons like performing the two procedures individually, performing the breast uplift first then measuring the dimensions of the breast accurately and after that performing breast augmentation. Other surgeons favor doing breast augmentation first subsequently followed by breast uplift. Majority of our patients at Aurora Clinics have a better preference to do the combined procedures due to time constraints. They choose to have mastopexy augmentation together which has the benefit of having one operation, although in its technical aspects more intricate to get totally accurate.
The vital things to consider carefully about this procedure (mastopexy augmentation) are shape, volume, location of the implant whether placed infront or behind of the muscle which are all discussed in the breast enlargement videos and in mastopexy, the type of mastopexy, scarring, and degree of scarring.
